Two letters to Verplanck, with whom he was active in New York politics. The first, dated 16 Feb. 1820, deals largely with the Missouri question then being debated in Congress. The second, 8 April 1823, concerns a vacancy on the Supreme Court, assessing in detail a number of possible candidates and asking Verplanck's help in obtaining the position for himself.
